A 1386 Vernacular Charter from Portugal, written by the scribe Martim Gonçalves in a fine Johanine chancery script and bearing the rubric of D. João I, King of Portugal and founder of the Aviz dynasty. This ms is significant as a very early example of a text in Old Portuguese.

Although there are elements to think that Pedro Rodrigues de Pereira and Pedro Rodrigues da Palmeira were a single individual53, the onomastic formulas attributed to them only allow, in principle, to identify the troubadour with this son of Elvira Gonçalves (Oliveira 1994: 424) 54. He could be Pedro Rodrigues who, along with Pedro Mendes and his nephew (?),Martim Gonçalves[of Nomães?], he commits, in 1225, in the Church of S. Miguel de Guimarães and before the archbishop of Braga, not to have malados in the estates of the monastery of Landim, founded by his grandfather, Gonçalo Rodrigues (Figueiredo 1800 / I: 345, no. 140). The only documentary record - without chronological indication - in which we find the troubadour's name mentions a palace in Vila Nova (from Famalicão) that had belonged to him: the [...] palace of Vila Nova, which belonged to don Pedro Rodriguiz da Palmeira that is not judged by Vermue [D.40]. The data relating to the mother and other relatives of his generation lead us to admit the possibility that he was poetically active from c. 1185.
The line name would be, in fact, Nomães, attributed in the Books of Lineages to Gonçalo Rodrigues de Nomães, eldest son of Elvira Gonçalves and Rodrigo Nunes. On the other hand, it is only in the Book of the Deão that this Pero Rodrigues, that I die of love (LD 7G4) among the children of Elvira Gonçalves da Palmeira is explicitly mentioned: Gonçalo, Martim, Urraca and Guiomar Rodrigues. On the contrary, in Count D. Pedro's Lineages Book only Gonçalo Rodrigues de Nomães, Urraca and Guiomar Rodrigues (LC 33A1-2) is mentioned. In this last work, Pedro Rodrigues da Palmeira is mentioned, but only in the episode of death of love and without explaining the family origins. Mattoso, in the LC "Index", identifies Palmeira and Pereira (p. 302). 53
D. Martim Rodrigues, bishop of Porto between 1191 and 1235, was also the son of the former and brother of the troubadour: and another son was named Dom Martim Rodrigues, who was bishop of Porto (LD 7G4). 54
