Padre de Ekbert; Liutold, Comte de Montbéliard; Herman II, duke of Swabia; Ita von Öhningen and Kunigunde von Öhningen Hermano de: Judith of Ohningen; Herbert, count of Kinziggau and Udo KONRAD [Kuno] von Öhningen, Duke of Swabia.(-20 Aug 997) x c968 RICHLIND d/o OTTO I King of Germany & Adelais of Burgundy] (->1 Nov 1007) EKBERT*LUITPOLD*LIUTOLD(->999)*KONRAD*HERMANN (-2/3 May 1003)*ITA von Öhningen*NN*KUNIGUNDE (-6 Mar 1020) https://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SWABIA.htm#Konraddied997B https://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/FRANCONIA.htm#Konraddied997A The question of the paternity of Duke Konrad is discussed in the document FRANCONIA NOBILITY. Thietmar names "Conradus Suevorum ductor eiusdem frater Heribertus comes" when recording their deaths[101]. "Otto imperator augustus" granted property by the spurious charter dated 13 Jan 965 to the church of Oehningen, built according to the document by "domnus Chono comes de Oningen" with the consent of "uxoris sui Richlinde, filiorumque eius Eggeberti, Luipoldi, Chononis, Lutoldi"[102], although as shown below this list of the couple's sons appears unreliable. The Chronicon Salernitanum records that "comes Alemannorum Saxonumque Cono Cuneus alius validus missus" fought against the Greeks in southern Italy in [969][103]. Jackman suggests that this refers to the future Konrad I Duke of Swabia, on the basis that "Saxonumque" is added because of his supposed wife's Saxon origin, in addition using this reference to date the couple's marriage[104]. He succeeded in 983 as KONRAD I Duke of Swabia. Graf im Rheingau 985 and 995. Graf im Ufgau 987. Graf in der Ortenau 994. The Annales Einsidlenses record the death in 997 of "Chuonradus dux" and the succession of "Herimannus filius eius in ducatum"[105]. The necrology of St Gall records the death "XIII Kal Sep" of "Chuonradi ducis Alamannorum"[106]. m ([968][107]%29 RICHLIND, daughter of [Emperor OTTO I King of Germany & his second wife Adelais of Burgundy] (-[after 1 Nov 1007]). The Historia Welforum names "filia Ottonis magnis imperatoris Richlint" as wife of "Couno comes"[108]. Jackson[109] identifies her as daughter of Liudolf [of Saxony] Duke of Swabia, son of Emperor Otto I, but the question is not without controversy. In view of the clear statement in the Historia Welforum and the spurious charter, it has been decided to show her here as the child of Emperor Otto I despite the unreliability of these sources, but in square brackets to indicate doubt. "Otto imperator augustus" granted property by the spurious charter dated 13 Jan 965 to the church of Oehningen, built according to the document by "domnus Chono comes de Oningen" with the consent of "uxoris sui Richlinde "[110]. As discussed below in relation to the supposed children of this couple, there are considerable doubts about the accuracy of information contained in this charter. The date should not therefore be accepted automatically as the basis for estimating the date of the couple's marriage. She may be "domna Rilint" from whom "Heinricus rex" acquired property "in Halla in pago Salzburcgouui in comitatu Thiemonis comitis", which he donated to the bishopric of Bamberg by charter dated 1 Nov 1007[111]. Duke Konrad & his wife had [nine] children https://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SWABIA.htm#Konraddied997B Conrad did not inherit the rule over Swabia through direct descent. His predecessor, Duke Otto, left no sons as heirs, so Conrad was appointed by Emperor Otto. Upon what credentials did Conrad qualify for this appointment? The answer to this may lead us to consider who his family may have been. According to Wikipedia, " There is considerable confusion about Conrad and his family. He is often identified with Cuno of Öhningen.[1] The identities of his parents are not known for certain. His father is sometimes said to be Count Udo from the Wetterau, and his mother an unknown daughter of Herbert I, Count of Vermandois.[2] There is also some debate about the identify of Conrad's wife. She is often said to be Reglint (or Richlind), daughter of Liudolf, Duke of Swabia, and thus a granddaughter of Emperor Otto I.[3] Others argue that his wife was Judith, daughter of Adalbert of Marchtal.[4] " Adalbert was a grandson of Henry "the Fowler" (Heinrich der Vogler), Duke of Saxony and King of East Francia. from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conrad_I,_Duke_of_Swabia footnote sources are: e.g. Wolf, 'Wer war Kuno von Öhningen?'; Hlawitschka, Konradiner-Genealogie Brandenburg, Die Nachkommen Karls des Großen table 3, VII.9; Schwennicke, Europäische Stammtafeln, table 49. Both possible wives are linked to him here on Geni, as are the likely parents. The two women are 20 years apart in age, so it is not impossible that he had children by both of them. Conrad I, Duke of Swabia Conrad I (died August 20, 997) was Duke of Swabia from 983 until 997. His appointment as duke marked the return of Conradine rule over Swabia for the first time since 948. When Conrads predecessor, Duke Otto I, unexpectedly died during the Imperial campaign in Italy of 981-982, he left no heirs so to fill the vacancy Emperor Otto II appointed Conrad as Duke of Swabia. Conrad is notable for being the first Swabian duke to keep the title in the family; after his death in 997 he was succeeded by his son Hermann II. There is considerable confusion about Conrad's family. The identities of his parents are not known for sure, candidates are Konrad Graf im Rheingau und in der Ortenau & his wife Judith or Udo Graf in der Wetterau & his wife Cunegundis de Vermandois. Further confusion exists regarding his wife, Richlind, who may either have been a daughter of Emperor Otto I or a granddaughter via Otto's son Liudolf, Duke of Swabia. Conrad had at least six children, including his successor, Hermann II. Notable Events Married Richlind 968.
